Childbirth Education Classes

Childbirth Education
Prepare for your child’s birth. Class topics include physical and emotional changes, what to expect during pregnancy and birth, techniques for relaxation and breathing, cesarean birth, pain relief options and more.
Registration is recommended by the sixth month of pregnancy. This is a three-class series, plus a Pain Management for Labor/Cesarean Birth class that is held on Thursdays. Select one series:
JanFeb series begins Tuesday, Jan. 10 or Thursday, Jan.

April series begins Tuesday, April 3 or Thursday, April 5

Pressed for time or looking for a refresher? Join us on a Saturday for a condensed version of the material offered in the six-week course. (Select one series of two classes.)

Pain Management During Labor/Cesarean Childbirth
Today’s expectant parents may need to be prepared for a surgical birth. This class reviews surgical procedures, techniques for decreasing pain, recovery strategies and medication options.

Babies First Maternity Orientation & Tour
Welcome to our all-inclusive Babies First program. Expectant parents will tour our state-of-the-art medical facility and learn why Northridge Hospital is the best place to have your baby.
Second Wednesday of each Month, select one date:
Dec. 14 or Jan. 11; Feb. 8, March 14, April 11, May 9 or June 13

Tiny Tots Tour
Siblings, ages 3 to 10 are invited to discuss their new roles, visit the newborn nursery and see where mom will be in the hospital. Select one date.
Thursday: January 19, March 1 or May 3, 4 – 5 p.m.
Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Ready, Set, Lets Parent!
Parenthood has its challenges and sometimes we all need a little advice from the professionals. Our innovative threepart series offers tips for coping as new parents, baby safety, reducing hazards and Pediatric CPR (non-certified CPR).
Three week series begins:
Tuesday: Jan. 10; Feb. 7, March 6, April 3, May 1 or June 5
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Breastfeeding Workshop
Breastfeeding is one of the best things that only you can do for your baby. Every mom has the potential to succeed, but this can sometimes be challenging. Join us to exchange information and experiences from other new moms. Taught by a bilingual Lactation Educator.
Monday, Dec. 5, Jan. 9, Feb. 6, March 5, April 2, May 7 or June 4
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Cost: $40 per couple
HeartSaver First Aid (Certified First Aid)
Learn the lifesaving skills of CPR. Taught by an American Heart Association (AHA) trained instructor, this class will teach participants how to recognize four life-threatening emergencies in adults, infants and children. Participants will receive one AHA textbook per family and everyone receives a certification card. Select one date.
Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Feb 11 or Sept. 8
or Thursdays, 6:30 – 10 p.m., May 3, or Nov. 15

CPR for Family and Friends
(Infant and Child CPR plus Safety and Injury Prevention for the Lay Rescuer)
An American Heart Association trained instructor will teach you how to reduce hazards that cause injuries and the emergency measures needed to clear the airway and perform CPR for infants and children up to age 8 (noncertified CPR).
Saturday: Feb 11, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or
Thursday: May 3, 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Thursdays, 10 a.m.
Discuss challenges and experiences. Led by a bilingual lactation educator.
