You are having a baby! Whether it’s your first baby or you are an experienced mother, Northridge Hospital can offer you the “personal touch” through our new Welcome Baby Program.
Mother and Babies Matter
We have created an integrative maternity care system that begins prenatally and extends into the postpartum period. The Welcome Baby collaborative will include our long-standing Babies First program and renovated Maternity Unit.
Welcome Baby Program
The Welcome Baby Program is offered as a free service to all women who give birth at Northridge Hospital regardless of income level or risk factors. First 5 L.A. awarded Northridge Hospital Foundation a $1.1 million grant for the voluntary program.
Every mother has the opportunity to be seen for a postpartum hospital visit, which includes maternal/newborn screening and breastfeeding support. Additionally, the program includes home visits until the baby is 9 months old. The number of home visits will depend on geographic location and risk level.
The goal is to work with families to maximize the health, safety and security of the baby, while strengthening the parent-child relationship. Parents are offered support, information and resources on issues such as pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, parenting, early childhood development, basic healthcare, nutrition, maternal depression and improving home safety.
The Welcome Baby Program focuses on the following outcomes:
- Increased breastfeeding
- Appropriate health and developmental care
- Improved connections to supports, resources and services in the community
