Welcome to Babies First!
Your hospital for delivery of joyful and cherished memories! Having a baby is one of the most important and exciting experiences you will ever have. Every woman has her own expectations for her birth experience; that’s why we have designed Babies First to meet your individual needs.
Our team of highly skilled nurses and medical professionals are here to make your special event as comfortable and stress-free as possible. The community has counted on us since 1955 to deliver the highest quality care. And deliver we have, more than 100,000 babies have come into this world with the help of our team of experts.
That's an important number to consider when choosing a hospital for delivery of your baby. Our family-centered approach to care is geared toward the needs of you and your family as you make the transition to parenthood.
Few expectant parents consider the possibility that their baby might need special medical care after birth. The March of Dimes notes that one out of 10 babies will need neonatal intensive care. Our state-of-the-art Level III- B Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides assurance that highly sophisticated care is immediately available ensuring infants have a greater chance to reach their maximum potential.
LDR and Recovery Suites
Although hospital staff is always present, the rooms provide a home-like atmosphere with warm soothing colors, wood floors and all medical equipment stored in the room’s custom wood cabinetry. Our open and airy suites feature large windows with panoramic views of palm trees and mountains.
Private Birth Suites
The Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) suites allow you to remain in one room during all phases of your labor and delivery. Your room is fully equipped with everything you may need for delivery, including an advanced monitoring system that allows you the freedom to walk around during labor.
We encourage baby to stay with you in your room from birth to discharge. This is called Couplet Care. Couplet Care offers many advantages during those precious early moments, including increased opportunities for bonding, increased participation of family members and helps mom to feel more confident by learning skills such as diapering and breastfeeding.
Immediately after birth, we encourage skin-to-skin contact with your baby by either mom or dad. This snuggling of the infant is called “kangaroo care.”
Fully-equipped for cesarean section deliveries, this suite is located very close to our LDR suites; giving you the comfort of knowing that it can be accessed immediately if this should become necessary. To help you prepare for your cesarean birth, we offer Expectant Parent classes.
Online Nursery is a free service where you can create your baby’s own web page.
This is a fun and fast way for you to safely share the news of your baby’s birth. The web page includes baby’s photo and birth information allowing friends and family around the world to post messages or order baby photos.

The experience of breastfeeding is wonderful for so many reasons --- the joyful bonding with your baby, the cost savings and the health benefits for both mother and baby. That’s why the Babies First program has filed a certificate of intent to become a Baby Friendly Hospital by adopting practices that support breastfeeding.
Our bilingual Mother-Baby trained nurses offer round-the-clock breastfeeding support so that all moms feel secure before leaving the hospital. We believe breastfeeding is the best food for baby, unless medically indicated. Before birth, we recommend our Breastfeeding Workshop to equip mom with the information needed to encourage a successful breastfeeding experience.
While you are at the Hospital, our Certified Lactation Consultant is also available for additional support. A Lactation Consultant is a highly specialized professional with advanced training in breastfeeding management. She is experienced in counseling, teaching and problem solving with breastfeeding mothers. Upon discharge, all moms are invited to our Breastfeeding Support Group.
Immediately after birth, we encourage skin-to-skin contact with your baby by either mom or dad. Kangaroo care is the snuggling of the infant, in an upright or near-upright position, directly on the chest under a blanket or inside the pouch of their parent’s shirt. The baby rests his/her head turned sideways on the parent’s chest so that the ear is above the parent's heart.
Researchers found that babies who were kangarooed for large portions of the day thrived. The following benefits have been identified in recent clinical studies.
Colic - Kangaroo Care performed in a quiet, low light environment with ANY baby has been proven to reduce crying and help the baby learn to transition from one sleep state to another.
Sleep - Kangaroo Care allows the baby to fall into a deep sleep, thereby conserving their energy for far more important things.
More Rapid Weight Gain - Kangarooed infants gained weight faster than those who were did not receive kangaroo care resulting in as much as a 50 percent shorter hospital stay.
Improves Health – In low birth-weight babies, kangaroo care reduced severe illness, infection and breast-feeding problems. It also stabilized the baby’s temperature, heartbeat and breathing.
Kangaroo care benefits the parents with increases in:
Breast milk supply
Confidence in their ability to care for their babies
Confidence that their baby is well cared for
Parent’s sense of control of their baby’s care
