Supporting Your Recovery

Walking You Step-by-Step Through Treatment & Beyond

The Leavey Cancer Center is here to guide and support you through your recovery and beyond.
Our Navigator Program connects newly diagnosed cancer patients with a "Navigator" who guides them through the "healthcare maze". Patients can rely on their Navigator for compassionate support, encouragement and education to ensure they have every available resource to make informed decisions regarding treatment options and symptom management.

The Breast Cancer Patient Navigator Program, with grants from the Avon Foundation for Women, supports those with breast cancer from diagnosis to recovery. The nurse provides education on treatment options, managing symptoms, and ensure informed decisions. The grants have also enhanced the quality of cancer care and improved women’s health in the community.

The Leavey Cancer Center is searching for volunteer Navigators to provide compassionate support to cancer patients. During brief training sessions, navigators learn how to personally support cancer patients through the management and recovery phases of their illness. If you would like more information, please call (818) 885-5471.

Supportative Therapies

Northridge Hospital’s patient-focused therapies begin with diagnosis and continue through treatment and remission. For the convenience of our patients, the new Center combines clinical and support services in one location.

Angies Spa

Look Good, Feel Better
In association with the American Cancer Society, this unique program teaches patients about skin care and how to use make-up, wigs and other accessories to enhance their physical appearance. This helps restore confidence after undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy treatments.

Intimate Image
Salon Intimate Image offers a variety of products specifically for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Products include prostheses, wigs, hats, wraps, turbans, clothing, and intimate apparel. Patients can make an appointment for a private consultation by calling (818) 997-9719.

Pet Therapy
While our dedicated hospital staff treats medical conditions, these four-legged friends care for our patients' souls and warm their hearts. A dose of puppy love is sometimes just what the doctor ordered.

Music Therapy
To further promote an atmosphere of empowerment and wellness, the Cancer Center and inpatient cancer unit are now offering music therapy to cancer patients. Facilitated by a Board-certified music therapist, the program addresses social, emotional and spiritual needs of patients by using listening, song-writing, drumming, improvisation, singing, imagery, and breathing techniques.

Spirtual Care
Our Chapel and Meditation Garden provide a nurturing and peaceful place for silence, reflection or prayer. Religious services for different faiths are scheduled throughout the week. The comprehensive, multi-faith and multi-disciplinary Spiritual Care Program also includes a complete Bereavement Program to support patients, families and staff.

Palliative Care
The primary goal of Palliative Care is to ease suffering and improve the quality of life for those with life-threatening diseases. This is done through comprehensive, excellent healthcare that is attentive to the whole person, body, mind and spirit. Different from Hospice care, Palliative Care can be provided anytime during an illness and in conjunction with treatment care.
