The Northridge Hospital Neuroscience Institute diagnoses and treats a wide variety of neurological problems and specialties such as brain and spinal tumors, stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, spinal surgery, and neurological disorders. In addition, it provides support for our level II trauma center. The Neuroscience Institute is comprised of more than one dozen neurosurgeons, neurologists and other specialists who focus on treating neurological and other related disorders.

The Gamma Knife Center joins only 200 leading neurosurgical institutions worldwide (100 in the U.S.) in offering the Leksell Gamma Knife® by Elekta. The Gamma Knife is a revolutionary, non-invasive surgery tool proven by decades of research and clinical data. This powerful and precise technology is the first and only Gamma Knife in the San Fernando Valley.

Not a knife at all, Gamma Knife delivers 201 beams of gamma radiation to a lesion or tumor without a single incision or even shaving the hair. Because it’s performed under local anesthesia, patients can return home from the hospital the same day. Gamma Knife is considered the Gold Standard in brain procedures because of its accuracy over standard surgery.

The nervous system is our body’s communication network. It begins in the brain, extends down the spinal cord and branches out to every organ and body part. Impairment can prevent this complex web of nerves from carrying important messages about pain, heat and cold to the brain. Enter the Neuroscience Institute: a combination of four specialty programs which treat a wide variety of neurological and neurosurgical problems.

Cochlear implants change the lives of the profoundly deaf and severely hard of hearing by giving them the sense of sound. The Hearing and Balance Program provides cochlear implants that bypass the damaged portions of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve.

You can increase your chances of recovering from a stroke by knowing the warning signs, seeking treatment within three hours of the onset of symptoms and going to an appropriate facility, such as Northridge Hospital’s Stroke Center.
