What to Expect During Your Stay

Personalized Healthcare for You

Though we are a large community medical center, we haven't forgotten that you are unique. That’s why we're committed to making your healthcare experience personal. You are the reason we are in business.

We want to serve your needs. We take proven medical science and apply it to your situation. Our physicians, nurses and other staff members are accomplished professionals who study the latest healthcare technologies to give you the best care possible.

You'll get the care you need at the time you need it.

  • You'll be in charge of your care
  • We'll anticipate your needs
  • Your care is tailored specifically for your:
    • Personal preferences
    • Comfort needs
    • Food and beverage favorites

Your pain is treated in the safest way possible to ensure adequate healing. You can help by noting your pain and working with your doctor or nurse to find the best relief.

Nurses conduct their change of shift reports to the oncoming nurse at the bedside, which enables patients to become more educated about their condition. Additionally, this allows time for patients and their families/Care Partners to ask questions.

Non-Smoking Facility
We are a non-smoking facility. Patients and visitors are prohibited from smoking within the facility, except in designated smoking areas.

How to Avoid a Fall
Patient safety is of utmost importance to us. Therefore, we take every precaution to prevent patient falls.

  1. Use your call light for help
  2. Ask for objects to be within reach
  3. Call your nurse if you feel weak, dizzy or lightheaded
  4.  Wear slippers or shoes with non-skid soles
  5. Use the call bell or cord in the bathroom if needed
  6. Notify your nurse if a spill occurs

We encourage you and your family to inform us of any concerns you may have about the service and the care you receive. We are committed to addressing your concerns promptly. Bringing a concern to our attention will not, in any manner, compromise your care or future access to services at Northridge Hospital.

Hourly Rounding
As part of our Journey to Excellence, we have implemented hourly rounding. Our nurses no longer wait to be called, but rather anticipate the needs of their patients by visiting them every hour during the day and every two hours or more at night. This is called “rounding.”

Our nurses will ensure important elements of care are addressed such as pain control, bathroom needs, body positioning, and that necessary items are within reach. In addition to rounding by your nurse, other administrative personnel may stop by your room to see how your stay is going and if you have any questions or concerns.

Bedside Reporting
Nurses conduct their change of shift reports to the oncoming nurse at the bedside, which enables patients to become more educated about their condition. Additionally, this allows time for patients and their families/Care Partners to ask questions.

Education About Your Illness
In an effort to keep you educated about your condition, your care team will meet with you frequently to answer any questions you may have. Furthermore, Northridge Hospital offers the most accurate and up-to-date patient education.

Patients and their families who are seeking medical and health-related information may utilize the medical library located in the hospital basement. If you need assistance, please contact the Medical Librarian at ext. 4608.

Accompanied by its trained owner volunteer, a Paws That Refresh pet therapy dog will visit most of the medical floors, twice daily, delivering unconditional love to the bedside of our patients. They also visit outpatient areas as appropriate.

These dogs are no ordinary pets...the docile and affectionate animals have participated in special training before qualifying as a certified pet therapy volunteer. They also adhere to strict infection prevention policies through consistent grooming before and after each trip to the hospital. To schedule a pet therapy visit, call Paws That Refresh at ext. 5397.
