Trauma Center's 25th Anniversary

OPEN 24/7 TO SAVE LIVES

TRAUMA:  It’s the scariest type of injury, requiring immediate, life-saving treatment within the “Golden Hour.” Today, Northridge Hospital’s Trauma Center treats more than 1,000 trauma patients each year -- many who arrive by helicopter on our heliport, which adds precious response time to treatment.

Northridge Hospital’s Level II Trauma Center is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer. This past December also marked the 25th anniversary of Los Angeles County’s trauma system. To commemorate this historic date, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors presented Northridge Hospital with a scroll for its outstanding care as one of only 13 designated trauma centers in the network.

For 54 years, Northridge Hospital Medical Center has honored our proud tradition as a place of compassionate healing and care. As part of our pledge to create a healthier community, we have provided more than $220 million in charity care and community outreach programs over the past six years -- and we make these numbers public to the State of California annually in our Community Benefit Report.

In a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that patients who undergo bariatric surgery are five times more likely to see their diabetes disappear within two years than those who only try diet and exercise. Visit our Center for Weight Loss Surgery to learn more the lap band and other bariatric procedures.

Our goal at this facility is to continue to avoid any serious mistakes -- or even the minor ones. That’s why we adhere to a comprehensive surgery checklist to increase patient safety. Check out our online library Surgeries & Procedures Encyclopedia with information on more than 370 topics, featuring illustrations designed to clarify complex anatomy and procedures.

Every medical unit at Northridge Hospital Medical Center keeps abreast of the latest technologies. This allows us continue providing the safest and most effective medical care. Recent additions include the Brain LAB (right) now offered through Northridge Hospital’s Neuroscience Institute , adding HDTV to our newly renovated operating rooms.

Northridge Hospital’s cancer patients can undergo radiation treatments in less time with the Trilogy Linear Accelerator Stereotactic System available soon at the Thomas & Dorothy Leavey Cancer Center  -- the first in the region to offer this advanced technology.
