Since Northridge Hospital 's humble founding in 1955 we have grown with the community, evolving into a 411-bed nonprofit facility serving two million residents. Fall 2009
n the Fall 2009 "Oh Baby!" issue of HealthSpeak we explore clinical research at Northridge Hospital, learn about more prestigious honors for excellence, and explore our Babies First program. We invited to read the full issue and explore our free community education classes and support groups.
The nervous system is our body’s communication network. It begins in the brain, extends down the spinal cord and branches out to every organ and body part. Impairment can prevent this complex web of nerves from carrying important messages about pain, heat and cold to the brain. The current issue also explores the Neuroscience Institute: a combination of four specialty programs which treat a wide variety of neurological and neurosurgical problems.
Trauma Center,
Summer 2009
Northridge Hospital’s Level II Trauma Center is celebrating its 25th Anniversary in 2009. Last year also marked the 25th anniversary of Los Angeles County’s trauma system. To commemorate this historic date, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors presented Northridge Hospital with a scroll for its outstanding care as one of only 13
designated trauma centers
in the network.

assembles while a heart attack patient is transported to our facility. We are also one of the first hospitals designated by LA County as a STEMI (heart attack) Center in the Emergency Department for our superior care of heart attack victims.

Revolutionizing Healthcare

Making A Comeback
. Our high-tech imaging cafe is now open and features a 64-slice CT scanner that produces extremely detailed images of the heart lung and other organs. Northridge Hospital's School-based Obesity and Diabetes Initiative (SODI) is a win-win for students, parents, teachers and staff at the Los Angeles Unified School District. We also introduce you to six our community board members.

The Steps to Better Health issue features articles on Northridge Hospital as one of the first designated Emergency Heart Centers, and the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition status that is achieved by only 10% of hospitals.
Our mission at Northridge Hospital is to better the lives of our patients, as well as those in our community. The Connecting Our Community issue captures the collaboration of the hospital with our community partners, and shares the story of a very special young lady on a mission "To Catch the Bad Guys".
