The Emergency Room and Trauma Center is open 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. The entrance is located off of Cantara Street, across from the main parking structure on Etiwanda Avenue. Free temporary parking is available outside the Emergency entrance in designated parking spaces.

For non-life threatening illness and minor emergencies, you can use our InQuicker Online Waiting Service™ to wait at home instead. Listen to one life -saving Inquicker story.

The emergency team is committed to the rapid assessment and management of critical illnesses. The team includes board-certified emergency physicians, board-certified trauma surgeons, emergency and trauma-trained nursing staff, on-call physician specialists and emergency department social workers.

Emergency Chest Pain Center

Accessed through the Emergency Department, the CardioVascular Center’s Chest Pain Center ensures that patients who complain of chest pain undergo an electrocardiogram (EKG) within five minutes and obtain further diagnostic tests that either lead to discharge within 23-hours or interventional treatment if needed. When experiencing signs or symptoms of a heart attack, it is recommended to go to an Emergency Department (or call 911) which is prepared to handle heart attack/heart disease patients. (Not all ERs are equipped to handle heart attack patients.)

STEMI (Heart Attack) Receiving Center

The Emergency Medical Services of Los Angeles County has selected Northridge Hospital as one of the first Emergency Heart Centers in LA County. The designation as a SRC (STEMI Receiving Center) ensures the best possible survival from a heart attack through earlier definitive diagnosis and treatment. This new protocol is being watched by the nation as the new gold standard in heart care.

Trauma Center/Pediatric Trauma

Providing the highest levels of clinical quality to injured patients, the Trauma Center is verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). We are a Level II Trauma Center equipped to provide the highest levels of emergency care to the most critically ill and injured patients.

We have a designated surgical suite equipped just for trauma cases. We have invested in the most advanced diagnostic technology that offers clearer images in record speed. Our Trauma Center has round-the-clock access to this impressive diagnostic equipment, adding precious response time to the patient's medical needs within the life-saving timeframe.

The highly skilled Trauma Center first opened in July 1984 -- serving the community for 30 years. While 11 trauma centers have closed their doors since the 1980's, we have remained open to serve the 1.9 million residents of this growing community. Northridge Hospital is one of only two Trauma Centers in the San Fernando Valley.

One of our advanced technologies for severe trauma is the "cell saver" blood recovery system. The "cell saver" collects a patient's blood that is shed before or during surgery, and cleanses and recycles the elements of it back into the body during the surgery. The result is a shorter surgery time and a reduction in the use of outside blood and in the chance of blood-borne infections.

Our Level II Pediatric Trauma Center (Pediatric Medical Center) is the only hospital in the San Fernando Valley that provides immediate care to infants, children and adolescents with life-threatening traumatic injuries. We are designated by Los Angeles County as a Pediatric Medical Center so now 9-1-1 Valley pediatric patients are taken to the right ER the first time.

Certified Primary Stroke Center

Not all hospitals are prepared to treat stroke. Our Stroke Center has earned the Gold Seal of Approval™ from The Joint Commission for Primary Stroke Centers. The difference between a best possible recovery and lasting disability can depend upon how fast someone responds to the signs of stroke, gets help and is provided advanced treatment by stroke experts ready at a moment’s notice with the most sophisticated treatment procedures.

Paramedic Base Station

Paramedic base hospitals allow emergency physicians and mobile intensive care nurses to communicate with paramedics via radio, to assess patients and better prepare before they arrive in the Emergency Department.

Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP)

There are few things more stressful than taking your child to the ER. Rest assured that our emergency physicians who specialize in pediatrics are prepared to treat your child.
Our ultimate goal is to prevent injuries before they happen. Take a look at our growing library of injury prevention information.

Disaster Preparedness

California hospitals are a critical element within the disaster medical response system and work collaboratively with local government, healthcare providers and other agencies to plan, prepare for and respond to the needs of victims of natural or man-made disasters, bioterrorism, and other public health emergencies.

Northridge Hospital continuously prepares for emergencies and disasters. We assesses risk, coordinate training, regularly hold drills, participate in state-wide drills and plan for predictable disruptions to ensure disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery programs to safeguard that the highest level of quality care and service to our patients is maintained during any type of disaster.

Emergency Preparedness for Your Family

The best way to stay safe is to be prepared before an earthquake or other emergency strikes. Depending on the nature of the emergency, your local officials cannot reach everyone right away.

Keep your family safe by preparing before an emergency or disaster strikes. Visit our Family Planning & Emergency Preparedness site for the information you need to be prepared.
