What Makes Our RN Residency Program Unique?
This comprehensive 18-20 week paid RN Residency
Program provides a total of 600 hours of precepted clinical time
and 200 hours of classes along with participation in a mentor
program and support groups. This program is designed for new
nursing school graduates to prepare them to work in an acute care
setting.
Northridge Hospital was the first site in
California offering this research-based acute care program. RN
Residents will use a hand held computer (PDA) to access schedules
and track progress during the programs.
RN Residents care for patients guided by
experienced nurse preceptors who teach skills, share knowledge,
ensure patient safety and enhance quality of care. The preceptor
component is based on Patricia Benner's model of
Novice to Expert.
To address the emotional dynamics of nursing, the program offers
debriefing sessions where small groups of RN Residents meet with a
nurse manager and a social worker/chaplain to discuss a variety of
issues in a confidential setting.
Designed to give RN Residents a supportive, open
forum to discuss various concerns, the Mentorship program provides
a one-on-one relationship with an experienced nurse from an outside
unit.
Looping Experiences
Individual rotations to related units help the RN Resident develop
relationships with staff members throughout the hospital and help
increase understanding of a patient's experience along the
continuum of care during hospitalization.
At Northridge Hospital Medical Center we recognize that being a new
graduate nurse presents new and exciting, yet challenging
beginnings into the profession of nursing. To meet this challenge
our RN Residency Program provides the skills and support needed to
transition from school to the acute hospital setting.
Let Northridge Hospital Medical Center help you reach your
professional goals and become a safe, competent and confident
nurse.
